A guide from the app’s developer
Try a live ASMR sound experiment in Drizzl
Try this with Drizzl - ASMR Sandbox open and your device sound on: pour a little sand, lift your finger, and listen as the pile settles. Then move the sand again. The scene is doing the playing, and you can change its rhythm with your hands.

Give the sand two different movements
- Choose Sand and one color. Use Mat and Color. Keep the first experiment to one material so you can hear its movement without changing several things at once.
- Pour a small pile. Drag briefly, then stop touching the canvas. Listen while the remaining grains fall and settle.
- Make a longer slide. Activate Gyro and tilt slowly so the pile travels across the canvas. Let it settle again. Compare the moving stretch with the quieter end.
- Change the contact. Select Slice or Scoop in Tool and make one short stroke. Wait between strokes, rather than filling the whole experiment with constant input.
- Repeat the movement you liked. Add less sand or make the tilt gentler. Listen for what changes when fewer grains are moving.
What is making the sound?
Drizzl generates sound while you play. The released audio system uses particle movement to change the sound, with an extra crackle layer for moving sand. Tool contact can also add feedback. As activity falls, the sound can fade instead of continuing at the same level.
A color change makes the motion easier to follow visually. It does not give sand a separate audio voice. For an honest comparison, keep the material and your device volume the same and change the amount of movement.
Two small comparisons to try
A sprinkle and a pile
Pour a little sand, wait, then pour a denser pile. Which gives you the rhythm you prefer? Compare both the contact while pouring and the settling after you stop.
A short cut and a long slide
Make one narrow Slice stroke, wait for the grains to settle, then tilt the pile across the canvas. Notice how long each movement lasts. The goal is to find a scene you want to keep changing, rather than copy a particular sound.
Try the physical feedback separately
Supported iPhones also provide haptic feedback. Hold the device while you pour and move the particles to compare the sound, motion and physical response together. Haptics depend on the device.
Use your own comfortable volume. If you prefer a visual break, you can play with the sound turned down. Drizzl is a freeform sandbox, so the experiment can be as short or as quiet as you want.
